TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Protesters urging a stop to violence by police staged a "die-in" at a northwest Ohio university.

The Blade (http://bit.ly/1DRhIG4 ) in Toledo reports that about 15 people lay on a ramp with protest signs in the "die-in" event on Tuesday at the University of Toledo.

An organizer of the protest said the event was aimed at raising general awareness of what he called institutional racism in the criminal justice system and at universities. Organizer Julian Mack said it takes awareness to uproot racism, and a concerted effort by lawmakers to make it happen.

University police said Tuesday that the protest at the university's student union building was peaceful, with no problems reported.
