UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio (AP) — John Carroll University outside Cleveland has received one of the largest donations in the school's history from an alumnus and his wife.
Northeast Ohio Media Group reports (http://bit.ly/1ESAoec ) that Timothy Donahue, former executive chairman of the Sprint Nextel Corp., and his wife, Jayne, have given the school $6 million to provide scholarships for low-income students who demonstrate academic excellence and a commitment to service.
Recipients will be known as "Donahue Scholars."
Donahue graduated from John Carroll in 1971 with a degree in English literature. He gave the university $1.2 million in a partnership with Nextel for a wireless network on the 60-acre campus in 2003.
