SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) — Two people were killed and five others were wounded in shootings at a Southern California nightclub and a nearby gas station early Wednesday, authorities said.

Gunfire erupted as up to 200 people filed out of Stinger's nightclub on the south side of San Bernardino shortly before 2 a.m., police Lt. Rich Lawhead said.

"Everything was ending, the lights were on, I was telling people to get home safe when we heard the gunshots," club promoter Eugene Jones told the Sun newspaper (http://bit.ly/1B1rAjW ). Jones, 31, was hosting a "taco Tuesday" event featuring live comedy.

One person died at the club and five people were wounded, two critically, Lawhead said. Another person died in a second shooting minutes later at a gas station a quarter-mile away.

Investigators said up to 40 rounds were fired, and they are searching for multiple suspects.

Stinger's has been the scene of past gang activity and the shootings were likely gang-related, Lawhead said.

After the shootings, there was a minor disturbance around 7 a.m. at Loma Linda University Medical Center, where Lawhead said some people reacted emotionally after being told their family member was among those killed. No arrests were made.

Jones called the shooting tragic and said he knows all of the people wounded and killed.

"They were all innocent," he said.
