ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) — A Danville, Vermont, school principal has resigned following allegations that he embezzled money from the school.
The Caledonian Record reports (http://bit.ly/1DDumsI) the School Board of Directors accepted Ed Webbley's resignation on Monday. He had been on administrative leave without pay since Feb. 17.
Vermont State Police say $360 in cash and $1,230 in checks made out to the Danville School were placed in a school safe on Feb. 13 and discovered missing three days later.
School Superintendent Matt Forrest told police he had reviewed video of the area around the safe, and saw a man open the safe and remove money. The man was identified as the 60-year-old Webbley of Danville.
He's scheduled to be in Caledonia County criminal court on March 23 to face an embezzlement charge.
