RICHARDSON, Texas (AP) — A Dallas-area hospital serving as a Texas biocontainment facility for Ebola has dropped the designation and resumed its long-term acute-care duties.
WFAA-TV reports the Ebola floor at Methodist Richardson Medical Center returned to regular hospital care Monday. Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins signed papers with the Department of Homeland Security to essentially decommission the Ebola facility that was never used.
Hospital spokeswoman Chris Hawes (hahs) told The Dallas Morning News that the facility was always meant to be temporary.
A Liberian man visiting Dallas died Oct. 8 from Ebola. Two Dallas hospital nurses who treated Thomas Eric Duncan contracted Ebola but recovered.
Methodist Richardson Medical Center was then designated as a biocontainment site in case of other Ebola cases. The state's other such facility is in Galveston.
