TOWSON, Md. (AP) — Towson University's president says she is resigning due to health concerns.
University President Maravene Loeschke has announced she is resigning from her position effective on Friday. In April, university officials announced that Loeschke had been diagnosed with adrenal cancer. She has been on leave since late August.
Loeschke had been expected to return in January. But she says her health will not allow her to give Towson all of her attention.
William Kirwan, chancellor of the University System of Maryland, appointed Timothy Chandler as interim president. Chandler has served as acting president during Loeschke's absence.
Loeschke has been president at Towson for three years. She earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Towson and spent more than three decades as an educator, administrator and dean at the university.
