ATLANTA (AP) — The Georgia Department of Public Health has been given more than $900,000 in grants to help in statewide motor vehicle safety programs.
Officials said in a statement Thursday that the Governor's Office of Highway Safety has awarded the department $920,700 in grant funding.
Department officials say they're using part of the money to craft statewide child passenger safety initiatives and to launch OASIS, an online program that gives public access to department statistics on deaths, hospital discharges, emergency room visits, crash maps and more.
Officials say part of the money is also being used for the Crash Outcome Data Evaluation System, which is a project aimed at analyzing crashes and proposing ideas for prevention.
The department has also launched initiatives to bolster the safety of elderly drivers and more.
