Baby girl accidentally shot in New York City home

NEW YORK (AP) — Police have arrested the parents of a 9-month-old girl who was hospitalized after she was accidentally shot inside her home in New York City.

Police say the father told officers he was cleaning his gun when it accidentally discharged.

The bullet hit the child in the hip. She was taken to Woodhull Medical Center and then transferred to Bellevue Hospital where she was listed in stable condition.

The incident happened Saturday afternoon in an apartment in Brooklyn's East New York section.

Police say 47-year-old Pedro Rosales, was arrested on charges of assault, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child.

The mother, Jessica Aguilar, was arrested on reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child charges.

It wasn't clear if they had lawyers.
