MILFORD, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania State Police had a special pair of handcuffs set aside and ready for the man wanted in the fatal shooting of one of their troopers, Cpl. Bryon Dickson.
They were Dickson's.
After the 38-year-old trooper was ambushed outside his barracks on Sept. 12, state police say the cuffs were kept at all times in the possession of an on-duty member of the barracks.
When Eric Frein was captured Thursday evening, a sergeant who had worked with Dickson used the trooper's patrol car to deliver the handcuffs to the arrest scene 30 miles away.
Police say he then slapped them on Frein, who was driven to the barracks in Dickson's cruiser.
Dickson, a married father of two, was a Marine Corps veteran who joined the state police in 2007. He had been a patrol unit supervisor at the barracks in Blooming Grove for just a few months when he was killed.
Prosecutors said they will seek the death penalty against Frein, a 31-year-old survivalist who police say had a grudge against law enforcement.
He appeared in court Friday for a brief hearing but did not enter a plea.
