WALLACE, Idaho (AP) — A Shoshone County Sheriff's deputy shot a dog after the animal bit him twice.
The incident on Friday happened after a woman near Wallace, Idaho, called police to complain a large dog was acting aggressively and not allowing her to leave her home. She described the dog as a pit bull.
The Spokesman-Review reports (http://bit.ly/1DN7ZDu ) the dog bit the deputy in the lower leg when he approached the animal. The deputy said he tried to retreat, but the dog bit him a second time on the thigh.
The deputy then shot and killed the dog.
The deputy, who was not identified by officials, was treated at the Shoshone Medical Center and released.
Authorities say they're still attempting to locate the dog's owner.
