NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — A northern New Jersey high school teacher faces additional charges of having sex with students.

Essex County authorities announced new charges Friday against Columbia High School teacher Nicole Dufault (duh-FAULT').

The 35-year-old Caldwell resident was arrested this week and charged with sexually assaulting three students on school property and in her car. Two more alleged victims were added Friday.

Dufault pleaded not guilty Friday to charges involving the original three students. She faces counts of aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child and is being held on $500,000 bail.

Dufault has been a language arts teacher at the school for about nine years.

Her attorney says the charges "run contrary to her commendable background and unblemished work performance." Timothy Smith said he will seek a bail reduction.
