FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) — Fort Smith has approved spending $1.5 million on infrastructure for a new medical college.
The Times Record reports (http://bit.ly/1n9oGz6 ) the city board of directors unanimously allocated the funds Tuesday night. It also authorized a grant application that seeks an additional $1.5 million from the U.S. Economic Development Administration.
Plans for the Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine were announced in February. The 200-acre campus is expected to open as soon as 2016.
The city's infrastructure work will include road improvements as well as water and sewer line relocations.
