HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A Florida man has been sentenced in federal court in Connecticut to three years' probation for possessing stolen firearms silencers.
Richard Sleeva of Naples, Fla., was sentenced on Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Alvin W. Thompson in Hartford for possessing stolen firearms silencers. He also was ordered to perform 450 hours of community service.
Authorities say Sleeva obtained silencers while on the board of directors of Gemtech, a Boise, Idaho, manufacturer. Prosecutors say he was removed from the board in 2001 when he failed to return silencers demanded by Gemtech.
Gemtech reported the firearms as stolen.
Sleeva pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a stolen firearm in 2011. He agreed to forfeit about 117 firearms he owned and possessed at residences in Pennsylvania and Newtown, Conn.
