CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A nonprofit group promoting energy efficiency is recommending a number of ways Nevada can do more to promote the use of electric cars in the wake of Tesla Motors' plans to build a $5 billion battery factory in the state. The Southwest Energy Efficiency Project says Nevada does not yet have the policy infrastructure needed to support mass deployment of electric vehicles.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — The National Weather Service has issued a Dense Smoke Advisory for an area stretching from north of Reno to south of Gardnerville and throughout Lake Tahoe. The service issued the advisory early today for the first time since smoke moved into Reno a week ago from a huge California wildfire more than 60 miles away.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The chief revenue officer of Las Vegas Review-Journal parent company Stephens Media has been named the newspaper's new publisher. The Review-Journal announced today that Mark Ficarra would take on publisher duties. That position was previously held by Ed Moss, who will continue with his second role as Stephens Media CEO.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas police are searching for a suspect in a fatal shooting in the backyard of the victim's home northeast of downtown. Police say the resident got into a fight with a male suspect who walked into the yard. The victim was shot several times. He died at the scene and the suspect fled on foot.
