SALT LAKE CITY — Attending an NBA game can be a costly venture. Tickets, parking, and concession stand purchases all add up to a single night of fun but leave the wallet empty.

For fans of the Utah Jazz, though, a new study by ValuePenguin found that Salt Lake City is the fifth most affordable place to watch an NBA game.

The study looked into what was the most affordable location for a small family to attend using average ticket prices, the cost of parking and concessions purchases, and compared it to the average household income in the city in which the team was located. For Jazz fans, it would take 5.6 hours of a day’s work to attend a Jazz game for a family of three.

The average cost to attend a Jazz game is $43 per person, according to the study, with a total cost of $129.57 for a family of three. Add to that $10 for parking, $18.50 for drinks and an additional $10.50 for hot dogs.

“We place a great deal of emphasis on customer service and enhancing the fan experience from the parking lot to the final horn of the game,” Frank Zang, senior vice president of communications, told ValuePenguin. “We desire for fans to have a great game-night experience and our dynamic pricing structure reflects those choices for consumers based on opponent, day of the week, and lower bowl or upper bowl seat locations.”

Zang pointed out that the Jazz offer several low-cost options for fans, including its Family Night on Mondays promotion, which is the purchase of six tickets and hot dogs for $15 each, as well as different opportunities for children and teenagers involved in the Junior Jazz program to receive a discounted ticket.

*Data by ValuePenguin* Additionally, Jazz players donate more than 18,000 tickets to youth and non-profit organizations through its Utah Jazz Player Ticket Donation program, which allows fans that may not generally be able to afford tickets to experience a game.

“Through its community relations programs, the organization gives back and believes in doing good. We have built long-term relationships between the state and the team for decades. A shared commitment exists between all parties and a philosophy of the Jazz being the community’s team.”

Washington D.C. was found to be the most affordable, with a household needing to work 4.6 hours to attend a game. Rounding out the top five is Charlotte (5.0 hours), Minneapolis (5.0 hours), Toronto (5.5 hours) and Salt Lake City.

The least affordable would be New York (14.3 hours), Miami (13.1 hours), Los Angeles-Lakers (12.8 hours), Chicago (10.5 hours) and Los Angeles-Clippers (10.2 hours).
