SALT LAKE CITY — Three more fun stories from the world of sports in today's From Left Field!
1. David Ortiz goes undercover
Hey, another undercover performance from a sports celebrity! This one is from David Ortiz, retiring DH for the Boston Red Sox. He wore a wig and glasses and started driving Lyft in his hometown of Boston. The video is great:
2. Rex Ryan goes undercover
Rex Ryan and his Buffalo Bills play the New England Patriots this week. With their injury and suspension woes at quarterback, it's possible that WR Julian Edelman (who was a quarterback in college) plays at QB instead, but Bill Belichick is staying silent for now.
So Ryan took matters into his own hands at Edelman's media availability:
I don't think Edelman knew Ryan was asking the question, but he did a good job of not revealing what will happen this week anyway.
3. Anthony Davis is taller, and not pleased
Anthony Davis, the New Orleans Pelicans' singular-brow superstar, is getting ready for the season to begin. He announced on the Pelicans' Black and Blue Report podcast that he's now 6-foot-11, not 6-foot-10 like he was previously measured at.
“They measured us like a week and a half ago and they said I was 6-11, which I don’t want to be. I think 6-10’s like the perfect height for me. It just doesn’t sound right. 6-10 sounds perfect to me. 6-11, 7 feet, I can’t, I don’t like it.”
Given that height is a really useful trait in basketball, I don't think Davis will apologize when he's blocking more shots next season.
