ATLANTA — Traveling with babies can quickly become the stuff of nightmares, but a kind passenger became the seatmate of one mother’s dreams when he offered to help with her fussy child.

Atlanta mom Monica Nelson was traveling home from Minneapolis earlier this month with her 20-month-old son Luke in tow. Nelson, who is pregnant, was stressed about keeping her active little boy happy on the flight, Today reported.

“I was a little worried about traveling with him without my husband there to help,” she said.

Nelson’s fears became reality when little Luke grew restless and began to fuss. That’s when the stranger sitting next to Nelson asked if he could take the baby and proceeded to walk Luke up and down the aisles until the child fell asleep.

Another passenger, Andrea Byrd, was so moved by the man’s kindness that she snapped a photo and posted it to Facebook.

“He did not complain, he just told her that he was a DAD, and wanted to help her so she could rest,” Byrd wrote. “I was in tears… because it showed me today that there are still GOOD people out there in a world full of turmoil.”

As of Monday, Byrd’s post had been shared more than 125,000 times.

Nelson told Today the man told her he, too, had a son named Luke. He didn’t hesitate to come to her aid when she was feeling overwhelmed, she said, and for that she will be forever grateful.

“It’s good to know the world is not all bad,” Nelson said. “There are some really great people out there.”
