SALT LAKE CITY — Four-year-old Brailey Partida left Primary Children's Hospital Monday after a nearly monthlong recovery from a lawn mower accident that required the partial amputation of her right leg.
"She still has a long road ahead but is making great progress," her family said in a statement. "Once her wounds are healed, we will begin working on rehabilitation. We are eagerly looking forward to when we can get her fitted for a leg."
Brailey was sitting on a riding lawn mower Aug. 1 while her grandmother cut a neighbor's lawn in American Fork. The young girl fell off and the mower's blades wounded her leg.
Brailey's parents, Jacob and Teri Partida, have said they believe their daughter could have died from the accident if it weren't for some fast-acting residents nearby. Earlier this month, they said Brailey was in good spirits.
"Her temperament, her attitude is just incredible," Jacob Partida said on Aug. 9.
On Tuesday, the family expressed gratitude to everyone who has rallied around the 4-year-old, whose love of ladybugs has earned her the nickname "Brailey Bug."
"We are so thankful for all the love, support and prayers from our family, community and all medical personnel who have been such a blessing to have aided in Brailey's recovery. We are forever grateful," the family's statement said in part.
