Summer Locals: Fredette, Nuggets down Jazz in tourney play; Wright, Raptors win

LAS VEGAS — Former BYU star Jimmer Fredette faced off against the Utah Jazz in the second round of the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, and his Denver Nuggets had the last laugh.

Fredette scored 12 points on 3-of-11 shooting to help the Nuggets (3-1) to an 80-60 win over the Jazz (2-3) to move into Saturday’s quarterfinals at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Fredette, who went 0-for-4 from 3-point range, also had five rebounds, four assists, two steals and finished with a plus-13 rating.

Denver’s Jamal Murray led all scorers with 20 points and five rebounds.

Dionte Christmas, Mike Tobey and Shaquielle McKissic each scored 10 points to lead the Jazz (2-3), and former Weber State post Joel Bolomboy finished with six points and eight rebounds.

The Nuggets advanced to face Phoenix in the quarterfinals.

Chicago 86, Dallas 73 — Former BYU post Brandon Davies and the Bulls ran past former BYU point guard Kyle Collinsworth and the Mavericks in tournament play.

Davies finished with two rebounds in 11 minutes off the bench for Chicago (4-0), which was led by Bobby Portis’ 19 points, eight rebounds, two assists and three steals.

Collinsworth had four points, three rebounds and an assist in 10 minutes off the bench for Dallas (2-3), which was led by Justin Anderson’s 17 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Toronto 75, Golden State 69 — Delon Wright scored 11 points and added four assists to help the Raptors remain undefeated en route to the Summer League quarterfinals.

Wright made 3-of-10 shots from the field, but added four free throws and a 3-pointer, and added four rebounds and a steal in 30 minutes. Nick Powell led the Raptors (4-0) with 17 points.

Toronto will face Summer League upstart Minnesota in Saturday's quarterfinals.

Former Utah center Jakob Poeltl finished with seven points, seven rebounds and a plus-14 rating for Toronto. Ex-Weber State guard Davion Berry played just over seven minutes, going 0-for-2 from the field.

Patrick McCaw led the Warriors (2-3) with 28 points.
