KEARNS — Police are searching for a man who they believe stabbed another man on the playground of West Kearns Elementary School Monday morning.
The pair were playing basketball on the playground, located at 4900 S. 4620 West, about 10:45 a.m., according to Det. Ken Hansen of the Unified Police Department.
One of them got into an argument with his girlfriend then stabbed the other man in the back when he tried to intercede, Hansen said.
The 36-year-old victim was initially reported to be in serious condition and underwent surgery, Hansen said. He was later upgraded to fair condition. The victim's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police said they recovered the weapon — a large knife. They continued to search for the suspect, who Hansen said is in his late 20s or early 30s.
Updates will be posted as they become available.
