SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake family who lost a mother and son in a car accident last week received some help fixing their home Thursday.

The home was damaged in a flood last month, making it unlivable. Thanks to some acts of kindness, the family is a step closer to being home for Christmas.

The tragic accident happened in South Jordan on Dec. 12 and the funeral for the mother and son was held Thursday.

Josh Morozin has been heartbroken ever since he heard the tragic news that his lifelong friend's wife and young son were killed in this car accident.

"It's hard enough to have a tragedy strike like that. I can't imagine. There are no words for it," said Morozin.

Rashelle Meguerditchian, 31, had just dropped her husband Levon off at work on the morning of Dec. 12. Zaven, 4, was buckled into the back seat.

The tragedy came just a few weeks after the family had been forced out of their home when their underground sewer line broke and backed up into their house. When Morozin learned of this last month, he decided to start looking for some help.

"We’re just trying to get people together to help them fix the sewer line and remodel the home,” Morozin said.

Just a shout out to any contractors who can support some time, maybe some materials, a little carpet, some drywall, some paint, some tile, really just cosmetic stuff to get them back in so he can worry about the things he needs to with his other two children.

Employees with Scott Hale plumbing got the pipe repaired.

“The first phone call I made to Scott, they said they would be out here and free of charge. They were out here same day,” Morozin said.

The next effort will focus on making repairs to the interior of the home, with carpet and drywall that the family's insurance won't cover.

Morozin is still asking for volunteers to help finish the home.

"Just a shout out to any contractors who can support some time, maybe some materials, a little carpet, some drywall, some paint, some tile, really just cosmetic stuff to get them back in so he can worry about the things he needs to with his other two children," he said.

Morozin is hoping the spirit of the season will help his friends to be able to get back home. He's pledged "to do anything we can to help lift the weight of the world off of them, and hopefully get them in their house for Christmas."
