SALT LAKE CITY — The Runnin’ Utes were selected to finish second in the Pac-12 in a preseason media poll released Thursday.
The Utes received 317 points for second place, which was a single vote higher than Colorado which received 316 points. Arizona was the favorite for the preseason conference champion, bringing in 383 points and 31 first-place votes. UCLA was the only other team in the conference to receive a first-place vote, with one.
Since joining the Pac-12, the Utes have been selected to finish in the bottom half of the conference, with its highest ranking coming prior to the 2013-14 season where the Utes were selected to finish ninth. The Utes finished the season in eighth place in the conference.
In the first two seasons in the Pac-12, the Utes were selected to finish last in the conference. The Utes finished tenth in the 2012-13 season and eleventh in the 2011-12 season.
The Runnin’ Utes will open play on Nov. 6 at 8:30 p.m. against Pacific in an exhibition game at the Huntsman Center.
