SALT LAKE CITY — San Diego Chargers safety Eric Weddle has always been a key cog in his team’s defense.

Other Utah defensive alumni registering stats in week five of the NFL season include Pittsburgh’s Brice McCain, who returned an interception for a touchdown in the Steelers’ 17-9 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Also, Atlanta’s Paul Soliai made four tackles in a 30-20 loss to the New York Giants, and Tenny Palepoi made a tackle for the Chargers in their win over the New York Jets.

Kansas City defensive back Sean Smith made six tackles for the Chiefs in a loss to San Francisco.
Offensively, Kansas City quarterback Alex Smith passed for 175 yards and two touchdowns, but Smith lost to his former team. Also, Baltimore wide receiver Steve Smith made five catches for 34 yards but had a fumble as the Ravens fell to the Indianapolis Colts 20-13. Minnesota running back Matt Asiata had 15 carries for 72 yards in a 42-10 loss to Green Bay.
