NACOGDOCHES, Texas- Weber State finished its non-conference slate with a record of 0-4.
In each loss, the Wildcats have failed to come back from early deficits. This time, Weber trailed Stephen F. Austin 21-0, before falling 35-20.
The game day grades reflect Weber’s continued struggles.
The Weber offense successfully moved the football, as the Wildcats had 32 first downs. The Wildcats also had 397 passing yards, and averaged 3.4 yards per rushing attempt. However, three turnovers put a black mark on the team.
The Wildcats surrendered 466 yards, and struggled to stop the Lumberjacks’ two-quarterback system. It was disappointing to say the least, but there were other struggles. Stephen F. Austin’s red zone efficiency hurt the defense’s grade, as the Lumberjacks converted three red zone drives into touchdowns.
Punter Blake O’Neill averaged 39.4 yards per punt, and the team averaged 24.5 yards per kick return. Those marks aren’t bad, but averaging 2.5 yards per punt return won’t get it done.
Weber State continues to see improvement in some areas, but struggles in others. Three turnovers will never help a team win, and giving a team a 21-0 lead won’t help either.
