PROVO — BYU will be without another offensive playmaker in its season opener after wide receiver Devon Blackmon said on Twitter that he’ll be suspended for the Aug. 29 game at UConn.
"Rules are rules.. Abide by them or suffer the consequences," he tweeted. "Looking forward to the Texas game."
The Cougars were already set to miss starting running back Jamaal Williams and wide receiver Nick Kurtz, who suffered an apparent stress fracture prior to a scrimmage Saturday and will be out 6-8 weeks.
BYU plays at Texas Sept. 6.
In a later tweet, Blackmon implied that his suspension is related to a violation of school dress standards.
@drewjay yea, We have team standards, and there's consequences if you don't follow them, I shouldn't wear earrings But I'll bounce back.. — DevonBlackmon (@AshantiBlackmon) August 12, 2014
BYU's honor code deems "[earrings and other body piercing](http://saas.byu.edu/catalog/2010-2011ucat/GeneralInfo/HonorCode.php)" unacceptable for men.
Team officials haven’t made any announcement yet. A call to school football media relations went unreturned.
Blackmon hauled in a 23-yard touchdown reception from backup quarterback Christian Stewart in the Cougars' scrimmage.
