SANDY, Utah (AP) — Nick Rimando broke the MLS record with his 113th shutout in Real Salt Lake's 3-0 victory over D.C. United on Saturday night.

Rimando broke a tie with Kevin Hartman for the record to help Salt Lake (10-4-9) move into first place in the Western Conference, a point ahead of idle Seattle.

Salt Lake scored twice in the opening minutes and has scored 10 goals this season before the 15-minute mark.

An unmarked Joao Plata scored his 10th goal of the season on a header in the 11th minute. Two minutes later, Javier Morales's cross found the feet of defender Chris Schuler inside the 6-yard box. The pair connected again in the 24th minute, with Schuler heading in Morales' corner kick.

Davy Arnaud's header went inches wide in the 62nd minute for D.C. United (11-7-4).
