SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Salt Lake City police say a man is dead and another is critically injured after they tried to enter someone's home.
Police Sgt. Brandon Shearer says the two tried to enter an apartment southeast of the city's downtown around 3 a.m. Thursday.
Shearer says a person who lived inside fired shots at the intruders, killing one inside the apartment and injuring another intruder police say was outside.
Police don't yet know if the resident and the men trying to enter the apartment knew each other.
Shearer says none of the three adults who live in the apartment were injured.
Officers are still investigating.
