TOWSON, Md. (AP) — Two students in Maryland face criminal charges after authorities say a fraternity hazing incident left a third student hospitalized.
Baltimore County police say 21-year-old Evan Palmer Francis and 21-year-old Alexander James Cantor of Towson University were charged Wednesday with hazing and reckless endangerment.
Police spokeswoman Elise Armacost says a 19-year-old unidentified male student became extremely ill and was hospitalized after attending a Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity initiation event March 31 during which he was made to perform strenuous workouts, recite knowledge of the fraternity and drink unknown substances.
The fraternity's international chapter and the university say the Towson chapter has been closed until at least 2021.
University spokesman Ray Feldmann says the school takes all hazing allegations very seriously.
