PROVO — Provo police have cancelled an Amber Alert for a missing 13-year-old boy.
At 12:06 p.m. Saturday, the Provo Police Department tweeted they "believe Pablo is in Mexico and is not in any danger."
Pablo Enrique Rivera, 13, was believed to be abducted by his non-custodial father, Juan Enrique Rivera, 42, on April 25. Investigators believe traveled to Mexico through the San Ysidro, California border, crossing to end up in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Investigators traced the boy's cellphone to Barstow, California Friday night. The phone has since been turned off. Police alerted the border patrol in an effort to stop Rivera from crossing into Mexico, but it appears they got through.
At approximately 8 p.m. Friday, Pablo's mother came home and found a note from her son saying he was going to Mexico with his father, police said. Juan is the biological father but does not have legal custody.
The two are believed to be in a white four-door Chevrolet sedan with Mexico license plates TYB1590, leaving Provo around 2 p.m. The boy's grandfather is believed to also be in the vehicle.
Juan is described as Hispanic, 5-foot-10 and approximately 200 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Pablo is described as an Hispanic, 5-foot-5 and approximately 100 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes wearing prescription glasses.
