CLEARFIELD — A 16-year-old girl was in critical condition Monday after falling from a moving pickup truck, police said.
The driver, another 16-year-old girl, was rounding a corner at 2300 South and 300 West shortly after 2:20 p.m. when the girl, who was sitting along the rail of the truck bed, toppled out, said Clearfield Assistant Police Chief Mike Stenquist.
A third girl was also riding in the back of the truck, Stenquist said.
The girl suffered a serious head injury and was taken by medical helicopter in critical condition to University Hospital in Salt Lake City, Stenquist said.
The girl's injuries didn't appear to be life-threatening, police said. The accident happened near her home.
Witnesses said the truck was travelling at a "high rate of speed," which police estimated could be between 30 mph and 35 mph, Stenquist said. It does not appear drugs or alcohol were involved.
The accident is under investigation, and possible charges could be considered against the driver, he said.
