SALT LAKE CITY — A man was injured after his car veered off of I-80 and jumped a concrete barrier, landing on the road below Saturday, officers said.
The incident started at 1700 East when a Mazda 6 traveling East bound veered left and hit the center concrete barrier, according to Trooper Lawrence Hopper of the Utah Highway Patrol.
"The speed of the vehicle was so excessive that it jumped up on top of the barrier and actually rode the barrier for a short distance," Hopper said. "The vehicle then rolled over the barrier, down the embankment to 2000 East proper, where he came to rest on the hood."
The driver was the only occupant in the car, Hopper said. He was checked for injuries at the scene and listed in bravo condition, with only minor cuts and bruises.
"The path that the vehicle took, ending up on its hood, he is only in minor (injury) condition because he wore his seatbelt," Hopper said. "It could have been a lot worse had he not been wearing his seatbelt."
Investigators said alcohol is believed to have been involved in the accident, which occurred at 7:46 p.m.
