HANKSVILLE, Wayne County — A 35-year-old Australian man fell about 600 feet to his death Friday while attempting recreational base jumping from a cliff by the Dirty Devil River.
Wayne County Sheriff's Office and a Wayne County Search and Rescue High Angle Team were dispatched during early morning hours to Angel Point Trail Head for body recovery and investigation, officials said.
Two men were in the area 10 miles southeast of Hanksville base jumping when the man fell. Officials were uncertain Friday what happened leading up to the fatal jump.
A Utah Highway Patrol helicopter assisted with in recovering the man’s body and transportating it to the medical examiner's office.
The name of the victim was not released Friday, pending family notification.
The incident remains under investigation.
