SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints President Thomas S. Monson announced plans for two new temples during the 183rd annual General Conference Saturday morning.
The two new LDS temples will be constructed in Cedar City and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The exact locations of the temples will be announced at a later date.
The Cedar City, Utah Temple will be the 17th LDS temple in Utah. There are currently two million church members in Utah, according to a news release.
Brazil is home to over one million members of the LDS church and currently has six operating LDS temples with an additional temple announced in Fortaleza, bringing the total number of temples to eight, including the announcement on Saturday.
