OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — A Roman Catholic ministry is offering a new housing option to University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh students who want to participate in faith-based living.

The Newman Student House is a six-unit coed apartment building that will open this fall about a half-mile from the university. It's an extension of the Newman Center of Oshkosh, a long-standing ministry of the Catholic Diocese of Green Bay, which already serves the campus community.

The Rev. Jason Blahnik, ministry director of the Newman Center, told Post-Crescent Media (http://post.cr/1lSrSP7 ) that he hopes the house will provide a good community for young people in the defining years of their lives.

Newman Student House residents must follow the house rules, including no drugs, alcohol or overnight guests. They must also agree to a set of expectations laid out in its community policy and follow an honor code.

Blahnik said the students will also be encouraged to pray, share meals and participate in monthly service projects. He said residents aren't required to be Catholic, but they should share in the house's mission.

The Newman Student House can house 28 students at a time. Apartments can be rented for $365 to $790 a month, depending on the unit, for 10 or 12 months.
