WASHINGTON TERRACE -- The yards in one Washington Terrace neighborhood look like a million bucks thanks to a man who works hard and never passes up an opportunity to serve.

Randy Smith was nominated for a KSL High 5. He has a full time job during the day and more work when he gets home. He spends hours weeding, edging and mowing lawn after lawn on his street, never expecting money or praise.

One neighbor, Madelon Damon, said, "He edged our yard and we didn't even ask for it. We didn't know anything about it. He's a really good neighbor. We appreciate him."

Another neighbor, Vern Coombs, said, "He helped me put my yard in. I could not go out there for five minutes without him being out there with a rake or a shovel or whatever getting the yard ready to plant grass. He's just a special guy."

Pam Johnson nominated Randy for the High 5. "We don't live in a million-dollar community but he makes it look like it," she said.

When we asked Randy why he does it, he said not everyone has an edger or weed whacker, so why not!

His good deeds are not isolated to cleaning yards. He used his own money to repaint the curbs when the paint faded, and he put a fresh coat on the fire hydrant, as well. His service continues, no matter the season.

Neighbor Kirsten Ferlin said, "Randy comes to our house in the winter and shovels our snow before we can get outside to shovel our own snow. He has pulled our weeds and edged our lawn. He cleans out gutters for free. Just because. Everybody needs Randy in their neighborhood."

Pam Johnson added, "Everybody here has been helped. We're just so excited and we just want to thank him so much."

Randy received tickets to the Fall Expo at the South Towne Expo Center running from Oct. 9-11, along with a Papa Murphy's prize pack.
