SALT LAKE CITY — Motorists should be aware of a freeway closure in Salt Lake City before heading out this weekend, the Utah Department of Transportation said. Also, the road through Ogden Canyon will close Monday.

Eastbound I-80 will close between 2300 East and Foothill Drive beginning at 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday, UDOT officials said in a news release.

Traffic will be detoured onto the I-215 east belt route, then off I-215 at 3300 South. The detour will continue onto northbound I-215, and then back to eastbound I-80.

Drivers should expect delays of about 30 minutes along that route, UDOT said.

Crews will be breaking up the existing concrete and paving over it as part of a major I-80 maintenance project. Similar work took place on westbound I-80 last weekend.

Motorists should also remember that I-80 is limited to one lane in each direction overnight and on weekends between 1300 East and the I-80/I-215 split.

Also, starting Monday, state Route 39 in Ogden Canyon will be closed to all traffic while UDOT crews pave the area. The closure includes S.R. 39 at Valley View Drive on the west and S.R. 158 over Pineview Dam.

The work should be completed in one day, according to UDOT.
