OGDEN — Weber State University student Nick Garrett is vying for an internship at “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” and his parody video may help him score it.

An internship is the only requirement Garrett has left to be a college grad. He recognizes he’s one of many applying for the internship, so he made a video to help him stand out. The video is a remake of the intro to Fallon’s show, but instead of New York City, it features Salt Lake City.

Garrett plays the role of Fallon in his parody video. He found Utah locations that look similar to the NYC spots in Fallon’s intro, and he lists his qualities that match the job posting in lieu of the guest stars names that appear in the original.

The Weber State senior had his first interview for the internship Monday. The man who interviewed him emailed him and told him he saw his video and that he liked it. Garrett should know whether or not he made it to the next round of interviews by the end of October or early November, he said.

“So after my interview, I just did like a follow-up email to him to thank him for his time or whatever. And then I just said I hope this also goes into consideration I’ve been working really hard on it, sent him a link. He said, ‘thank you’ but then he actually saw it on Reddit when it was one of the top 5 trending videos. So then he emailed me again and let me know that he saw that it was trending and left a comment and everything,” Garrett said.

Some of the locations featured in Garrett’s video include the George S. Eccles 2002 Legacy Bridge, City Creek Center, The Grand America Hotel and the Egyptian Theatre in Park City. The Egyptian Theatre was the only shot taken outside Salt Lake City. “I’ve just always wanted to work in TV or film. I like making people laugh and that’s what he does,” Garrett said. “And I’ve just always been a huge fan of Jimmy Fallon, I watch every night, and I’ve watched him ever since he was on SNL and things like that. And then I’m also a huge fan of Lorne Michaels and all the stuff he puts together.

“So I just think it’d be a really fun internship rather than one that like I’m sure it’ll be hard work and I’ll learn a lot, but out of all the internships that I can think of, that’s got to be the most fun one I can think of.”
