LOGAN — Utah State opened fall camp in the shadow of recently renovated Maverik Stadium with plenty of new faces, and a few familiar ones, too.

The Aggies don’t have to replace a quarterback — that starting job will go to junior Kent Myers, who will begin his third season at Utah State against Weber State.

“I felt like it was the best day one since I’ve been here the last three years,” Myers said. “I’m excited about the receiving corps, the linemen and the running backs coming back. We’ve got a lot of inexperienced guys at receiver, but I feel like they’ll come in and play well.”

But there is a void to fill on defense, especially after losing NFL draft pick linebackers Kyler Fackrell and Nick Vigil.

Former BYU defensive back Dallin Leavitt will make the defense better, though, and Wells will rely on him in some gaps.

“The defense played well today,” Levitt said. “We brought good energy, we did a good job of playing the ball in the air and we did a good job of getting to the ball. Obviously, the first day there will be a lot of energy and juice as we like to call it. But there is always room for improvement.”
