PHILADELPHIA — The first LDS temple in Pennsylvania will be open for public tours Aug. 10 through Sept. 9, according to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“The 61,000-square-foot temple features classic Georgian architecture designed to blend with the historic Philadelphia architecture,” the LDS Church reported. “The exterior is clad in granite from Maine, and the interior features stone from Egypt and Italy. The building includes original art glass and an oil-painting wall mural of landscapes important in both American and church history, including the Susquehanna River and the Delaware River.”

The temple is in downtown Philadelphia on 1739 Vine Street and will be open for tours daily, excluding Sundays. Those who would like to attend the free open house can make reservations at www.philadelphiamormontemple.org or by calling 1-855-537-2000.

The temple will be dedicated Sept. 18. Before it is dedicated, youth members of the church will perform in a cultural celebration Sept. 17 held at the Liacouras Center on the campus of Temple University.

The new temple will serve over 40,000 Latter-day Saints in parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and the entire state of Delaware, according to the LDS Church.

Close to the temple, the LDS Church is constructing a 32-story, 490,000 square-foot building that will include townhomes and stores.
