Blackmon too much as Layton sweeps series with Davis; Murray boy's hoops tops Hillcrest

KAYSVILLE — Julian Blackmon had 19 points, three assists and five steals to help Layton's boy's basketball team sweep the season series with Region 2 rival Davis, 62-50.

The Lancers (11-8, 8-1 Region 2) jumped out to a double-digit lead, but the Darts pulled within three at the end of the first quarter. But Layton used a 26-17 run over the middle two quarters to pull away from Davis, which wore special socks in memory of the recent death of an LDS misisonary from Kaysville.

Dallin Watts added 15 points, four assists and three steals for Layton, which got 13 points and 12 rebounds from Chandler Obrey.

Jarrett Gardner led Davis (13-7, 8-2 Region 2) with 26 points, 10 rebounds and three steals.

Maple Mountain 60, Wasatch 51 — At Maple Mountain, Parker Christensen poured in 20 points, including three 3-pointers, to help the Golden Eagles (8-2 Region 8) hold off the Wasps (6-2).

BYU quarterback signee Jaren Hall added 14 points, three rebounds and three assists for Maple Mountain, which got 10 points and four rebounds from Kade Poulsen and eight points, six boards and five assists from Samuel Krommenhoek.

Murray 74, Hillcrest 57 — At Hillcrest, Peyton Christman scored 19 points on four 3-pointers and Zach Dickerson added 17 points with a pair of triples, to help the Spartans to the road win over the Huskies.

AJ Hodges added 16 points for Murray, which used a 22-10 run in the third quarter to break open the game.

Eli Walch scored 16 points to lead the Huskies, who retired the jersey of alum and current Jacksonville Jaguars offensive lineman Zane Beadles in a halftime ceremony.

Bassel Tekarli scored 13 points for Hillcrest and Troy Brinar added 10.

Pleasant Grove 46, Riverton 43 — At Pleasant Grove, L.A. Clippers guard C.J. Wilcox had his former No. 23 jersey with the Vikings retired and Matt McCarty's late score made sure the visiting Silver Wolves didn't spoil it with an exclamation point.

With the win, Pleasant Grove remains tied for the No. 2 spot in Region 4.
