SALT LAKE CITY — A man who suffered severe burns after the gasoline tanker he was driving crashed and exploded has died.
Colorado resident Leslie Shelton, 28, was transporting about 8,500 gallons of gasoline on Nov. 28, 2014, when he crashed.
He was trying to go from southbound I-15 to eastbound U.S. 6 when he went off the side of the ramp, down an embankment and crashed, causing his truck to explode.
Shelton's mom told KSL he died Friday, which was one day short of the year mark of his accident. Shelton never left the hospital and fought daily to survive.
His mother said Shelton was always the first to help people.
