Coggins leads Cal State-Fullerton over Southern Utah

CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) — Tre Coggins scored 25 points, with five 3-pointers, and Cal State-Fullerton beat Southern Utah 80-66 on Tuesday.

Coggins was 7 of 14 overall and 5 of 9 from beyond the arc. Khalil Ahmad had 22 points and was perfect on four 3-pointers, while Malcolm Brooks added 11 points.

Cal State-Fullerton (3-1) opened a 10-point lead early — Ahmad's 3-pointer with 12:38 in the first half made it 14-4. Southern Utah tied it at 20 with 1:36 left in the half, but Coggins made a pair of 3-pointers and Lionheart Leslie made a pair at the line to open a 28-20 lead at intermission.

Southern Utah (0-4) trimmed it to two with 11:09 left on Casey Oliverson's layup, but Ahmad drained three 3-pointers and Brooks added another over a 3-minute stretch to go up five with 6:18 left.

James McGee led Southern Utah with 18 points and Oliverson finished with 16 points and nine boards.
