SUNSET — Police have identified the man stabbed to death overnight Tuesday.

Tyler Eastabrook, 31, was dead when police arrived outside a fourplex at 2300 N. 250 West about 2 a.m.

Sunset police say Michael Scott Ennis, 34, stabbed Eastabrook during an argument between the two men. Ennis and Eastabrook both had a child with the same woman, who lives at the fourplex where the stabbing occurred. Neighbors told investigators the men did not get along.

Ennis allegedly fled the fourplex before police arrived but was arrested without incident after officers made contact with him. He was booked into the Davis County Jail for investigation of criminal homicide and a parole violation.

No children were home when Eastabrook was stabbed, said Sunset Police Chief Ken Eborn.

Leslie Liptrap, the mother of Ennis' son and Eastabrook's daughter, said the confrontation between the men started when Ennis resisted leaving the apartment. Liptrap said Ennis eventually left, and Eastabrook followed him to the door and then outside.

"My daughter came home and she was told that her dad that's been her dad for 10 years killed her biological dad, and my little boy doesn't even know yet," Liptrap said. "It's a family torn apart."

Liptrap and Ennis separated about a year ago, she said, and Eastabrook moved in with her a short time ago to be with his daughter.

Court records show Ennis' criminal history includes convictions for multiple assault counts, burglary of a vehicle, unlawful acquisition of a financial card, unlawful use of a financial card, retail theft, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A search of court records indicate Eastabrook was convicted twice for forgery and two other times for drug possession, including a misdemeanor drug case that finished in May. He also pleaded guilty to a felony charge of damaging a jail in 2007.
