FORT DUCHESNE, Uintah County — One man died Sunday in an early morning shooting on the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation.

Few details are being released about the apparent drive-by shooting, which is being investigated by Bureau of Indian Affairs police and FBI agents. FBI spokesman Todd Palmer said he could only confirm that a joint investigation involving both agencies is ongoing.

The shooting happened about 3:30 a.m., according to law enforcement sources, at a house just north of U.S. 40 on 7500 East in the Richardson subdivision. A 20-year-old man was outside the house when he was shot and killed by someone who drove past the house, the sources said. No one in the house was injured.

Police in eastern Utah were advised to look for an older model black Nissan Maxima with tinted windows and stock rims in connection with the shooting, Uintah County Sheriff's Cpl. Brian Fletcher said. He said he didn't have any other details about the case because the sheriff's office is not involved in the federal investigation.

More information will be provided when it becomes available.
