HIGHLAND — A 16-year-old girl involved in a serious crash with her mother in Highland Monday has died from her injuries.

Maylee Anderson suffered several severe injures when the car she was in with her mother, Christine, crashed at the intersection of 11800 North and Highland Boulevard. The driver of the second vehicle was also injured.

On Friday, family members posted on a Facebook page set up to support the two, "Much more to come but you all need to know that Maylee has just passed and is with her Heavenly Father. I love you Missy."

Maylee's father Stuart Anderson told KSL Friday afternoon that he's "at peace."

"And it was such a blessing for the anonymous donor that made it possible for Christine to be relocated to the hospital with Maylee," Stuart Anderson said.

Maylee's condition deteriorated early Friday morning, he said. Maylee had a brain scan around 4 a.m. that showed further deterioration and swelling. Family and friends were able to say goodbye and she passed away at 11:45 a.m., Anderson said.

Ben Anderson, Maylee's brother, said his sister was shy at first when first meeting people, but quickly became outgoing the more she got to know them.

"She's very outgoing, very outspoken, and very vibrant," Ben said. "She liked to make us food and try new recipes. She and I used to go to Smith's to get ingredients to cook."

Her family says Maylee will be a donor. She was taking classes to get her driver's permit and Maylee told her parents just last month that she wanted to donate her organs if something happened to her.

"It made our choice much easier," Stuart said. "Hopefully her organs will be a match for somebody who is in need now and she can be a miracle for someone else."

One of Maylee's good friends, Jane Brown, also spoke with KSL on Friday and said Maylee has been a great friend for years and she will miss "everything" about her.

"When I had cancer six years ago, my closest friend group all disappeared and left me alone," Brown said, adding that Maylee was there for her through recent trials. "Maylee stood there at my side lifting me up. She's a true friend."

Christine was still hospitalized Friday but her condition is not considered life threatening.

Family members have been posting updates on both women on social media since the incident. A GoFundMe page* has been set up by the family to help with medical expenses.

Residents have complained about the intersection where the crash occurred, noting it has no traffic light and drivers come down the back side of Suncrest in Draper at very fast speeds. The intersection has been the site of other serious accidents.
