SALT LAKE CITY — A man who police say is a member of a violent street gang was named as Public Enemy No. 1 by the Metro Gang Unit Friday.

A $50,000 state warrant has been issued for Michael Steven Bonilla, 19, which “includes six counts of attempted murder and four counts of felony discharge of a weapon,” according to the Metro Gang Unit. Investigators said he has also been arrested in connection with assault and drug-related crimes in the past.

When Bonilla was 17, he was charged with six counts of attempted murder with gang enhancements, four counts of felony discharge of a firearm and obstructing justice in relation to a drive-by shooting in Kearns that took place Oct. 21, 2013. Two other men faced the same charges.

Investigators described Bonilla as being 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds. He has brown eyes, brown hair and the number “801” tattooed on the back of his head.

Anyone with information about Bonilla can contact the Metro Gang Unit through Unified Police dispatch by calling 801-743-7000. Police said calls will remain anonymous.
