SALT LAKE CITY — A new report shows almost every Utahn has at least one computer in his or her home.

Utah is first in the nation for computer ownership, according to a U.S. Census Bureau study. It shows 95 percent of Utahns have a computer in their homes. The national average is 88 percent.

The study counts smartphones and tablets as computers. The most common household computer people own is a desktop or laptop.

Utah previously ranked first in the nation for access to the Internet, but now the Census Bureau asks about high-speed Internet access, and that drops Utah to fifth nationally.

Mississippi ranks last with 62 percent of residents owning a computer.
