OGDEN — Weber State suffered yet another close loss Saturday, with an eerily similar script to all the others.
The Wildcats moved the ball, the Wildcats scored points and the Wildcats made stops in Weber’s Homecoming game versus Cal Poly. However, the Mustangs also did all of those things; they just did it more in a 30-24 win over Weber State.
As usual, there were plenty of postgame thoughts on the Wildcats’ performance.
Weber’s special teams unit had a big impact on the game, as Weber’s Bo Bolen had 193 return yards. Bolen also scored a kick-return touchdown, on a 94-yard scamper down the sideline.
The Weber State offense, after improving its output over the past three games, gained only 276 yards. Also, Weber quarterback Billy Green, who came into the game ranked eighth in yards thrown in the nation, passed for only 97 yards.
Turnovers have plagued Weber more than any other disease, but a particular turnover changed the game. The Wildcats had a 14-10 lead late in the second quarter, and Weber was driving for a two-score lead. However, Weber fumbled the ball on a bad snap exchange between Green and center Alex Land. Cal Poly turned the turnover into a touchdown, as the Mustangs took a 17-14 halftime lead.
