SALT LAKE CITY — An officer used a Taser to stun a woman after she stole a bottle of liquor and resisted arrest Monday afternoon, police said.
The theft took place at the State Liquor Store at 205 W. 400 South around 2 p.m., according to Salt Lake City police detective Greg Wilking. An officer was working at the store when his co-worker alerted him to a woman attempting to steal a pint of tequila, Wilking said.
The officer confronted the woman as she was leaving the store with the bottle concealed under her clothing and she pulled away, Wilking said. The woman continued to resist arrest and began kicking so the officer deployed a Taser to prevent further injury to himself and the woman.
Roxanne Martinez, 43, was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of resisting arrest and retail theft.
