PROVO — A suspicious package prompted police to call out the bomb squad Wednesday at a CVS Pharmacy.
A bomb threat was called in at 1235 N. University Ave. at 1:26 p.m. The caller indicated that there was a bomb in a red car in front of the building and there would be a shootout with police, said Provo Police Lt. Mathew Siufanua.
Officers responded and sent a bomb dog into the building to check out UPS packages that had been delivered earlier. The dog "hit on" a package, indicating a possible threat, Siufanua said.
Police called in a bomb squad and a robot to X-ray the package. Police cleared the scene after 3 p.m., once they determined there was no threat.
The incident was the second bomb threat reported Wednesday in Utah.
The other threat occurred at a Walgreens, 4040 W. 5415 South, about a block from Kearns Junior High School. It caused the school to go on a soft lockdown.
A male called the pharmacy at 2:01 p.m. and made a similar threat that there was a bomb in a car outside the store, Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said.
The lockdown and all restrictions related to the threat were lifted shortly after 3 p.m., Hoyal said. Police found that the threat was unfounded, he said.
